Raspberry Pi Hikes 2GB Pi 4 and Pi 5 Prices by $12.50 on DRAM Costs
Prices for 2GB variants of the Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 increased by $12.50, while 1GB versions and Compute Modules hold at their previous prices.
Raspberry Pi raised prices on the 2GB memory configurations of the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 on Oct. 1. The price jumped by $12.50, bringing the 2GB Pi 4 to $67.50 and the 2GB Pi 5 to $77.50. In April, the company raised prices on higher-memory models but held the 1GB and 2GB boards.
What changed and which models are affected
| Model | Previous price | New price | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raspberry Pi 4 (2GB) | $55.00 | $67.50 | +$12.50 |
| Raspberry Pi 5 (2GB) | $65.00 | $77.50 | +$12.50 |
| Raspberry Pi 4 / 5 (1GB) | Unchanged | Unchanged | Frozen |
| Compute Module 4 / 5 (2GB) | Unchanged | Unchanged | Frozen |
Previous prices are the new prices minus the $12.50 increase. The announcement lists only the new prices.
Not every board is getting more expensive. The 1GB variants of both boards keep their current prices, and the 2GB configurations of the industrial Compute Module 4 (CM4) and Compute Module 5 (CM5) were excluded from this hike.
Why 2GB rose and whether it will reverse
Raspberry Pi blames memory. The price of DRAM, the working memory soldered onto each board, has risen steeply over the past two years and is still climbing. The announcement does not break the cause down further.
The company absorbed the higher memory cost on 1GB and 2GB boards in April, but says holding the 2GB price had become unsustainable. It intends to roll back the price increases once global memory costs normalize, though it provided no timeline for when relief might arrive.
What to check before buying
Developers should audit project hardware requirements to avoid paying for unneeded memory headroom. For lightweight tasks such as basic sensor telemetry, simple headless services, or motor control, the 1GB model or older boards like the Raspberry Pi 3B, 3A+, or 3B+ may deliver sufficient performance at lower cost. Business customers can ask Raspberry Pi for help cutting their memory requirements.
Buyers should also watch out for unauthorized resellers marking up prices or selling counterfeit boards. Official Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers adhere to published manufacturer pricing, making them the safest channel to avoid inflated costs.
What to watch next
Raspberry Pi gave no date for reversing the increase, so the next signal is memory pricing itself. Also watch whether other single-board computer makers raise prices on their low-memory boards.
