Cursor's New Premium Plan Is $30 a Month, and Claude and GPT Are Not Included
New subscribers cannot buy the old $20 Pro plan. They start on $30 Premium, and third-party models such as Claude and GPT are no longer included in the subscription.
On Oct. 12 SpaceXSI (SpaceX Super Intelligence) announced The X Subscription, which bundles Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium into one plan. New customers start on this pricing from that day. Individual tiers are Free ($0), Plus ($8/mo), Premium ($30/mo), Super ($100/mo), and Ultra ($200/mo). The company says Premium packages benefits that used to cost about $90 a month when SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+ were bought separately.
This is not a new “Cursor-only $30 Pro.” The tier that maps to the old Cursor Pro ($20/mo) is Premium ($30/mo), and Pro is not open for new signups. Existing Cursor subscribers do not have to switch right away; switching is optional.
Plans and included usage
Included usage is listed as multiples of Plus. Premium is 4× Plus, Super is 15×, and Ultra is 50×. That usage is a shared weekly pool for Grok-family models and Cursor’s own models (Composer and others). The Grok apps, the Grok tab on X, Cursor, and—depending on the plan—Grok Bot all draw from the same pool. The pool refreshes every week.
| Plan | Monthly price | Included usage (official label) | Notable in Cursor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited | Starter coding-agent allowance |
| Plus | $8 | Base | Grok and Composer only. No cloud agents, Origin, Bugbot, or third-party models |
| Premium | $30 | 4× Plus | Cloud agents, Origin, Bugbot, Grok Bot. Third-party models at API list price, billed separately |
| Super | $100 | 15× Plus | Premium plus priority access at peak times |
| Ultra | $200 | 50× Plus | Earliest access to new products and models |
Team seats use the same $30 / $100 / $200 prices as Premium, Super, and Ultra. The company says the per-seat entry price is lower than the old Cursor Teams starter ($40/user/mo) and that coding usage is about 3× higher.
Official docs say each comparable new paid tier includes at least twice as much coding usage with Cursor’s own models as the legacy Cursor plan it replaces. Language on the Unify flow that reads like “2× the $20 plan” refers to those own models (Composer and Grok). There is no included third-party allowance for Claude, GPT, and similar models on the new plans.
Third-party models bill at API list price from the first request
Legacy Cursor Pro ($20/mo) included an “Other Models” pool for third-party models in the subscription. According to The New Stack, Pro included about $20 of third-party usage at API list prices, Pro+ ($60/mo) about $70, and Ultra ($200/mo) about $400, plus further allowances beyond those figures. We could not open the full New Stack article, so these figures are single-source and unconfirmed.
On The X Subscription at Premium and above, third-party models are still available, but the subscription fee includes no third-party usage. From the first request they are charged at the provider’s API list price (the published rate card) from prepaid credit. Super and Ultra work the same way. Plus has no third-party models at all.
So someone who relies on Claude or GPT and moves to Premium pays $30 for the plan plus separate third-party usage. Compared with covering about $20 of third-party use inside a $20 Pro bill, keeping the same third-party volume can raise monthly spend.
Existing Pro and Pro+ stay for now
Cursor Help says switching is optional, and that current plan, price, and features continue unless you change or cancel. The switch is permanent. New customers and people with only a free X account start on The X Subscription. Existing individual and team customers can still upgrade or downgrade within legacy Cursor plans (Cursor billed through the Apple App Store is an exception and may need to switch first).
The official mapping is Pro ($20/mo) ↔ Premium ($30/mo), Pro+ ($60/mo) ↔ Super ($100/mo), Ultra ($200/mo) ↔ Ultra. “Comparable” means the closest tier, not identical benefits. Legacy plans use two monthly pools (Cursor Models and Other Models). The new plans use one weekly pool for own models, shared with Grok.
On the Cursor forum, staff said that if you are on a current Cursor plan, your included third-party usage continues until you switch. No migration date for remaining Pro and Pro+ customers has been published. Claims on Reddit and elsewhere of a fixed “soon” forced-switch date were not verified.
Unverified or easy-to-misread points
- Reading this as “Cursor launched a new $30 Pro” misses the main announcement: The X Subscription bundling Grok, Cursor, and X, with Premium at $30 as the main paid coding tier.
- “30 dollars gives twice the usage of 20 dollars” is about own-model coding usage. It does not mean twice the third-party allowance.
- Grok Bot drawing from the same pool matches official docs and pricing FAQ. Heavy chat, image, or bot use can leave less included room for coding.
- Official materials do not say the $20 Pro lasts “forever.” They support keeping it for now and optional switching.
- Account resale talk and political threads on Reddit are unrelated to the pricing facts and were not used as sources here.
What could change for developers
What follows is our estimate and advice based on the coverage.
- On a new account, treat Premium ($30/mo) as the successor to Cursor Pro ($20/mo). Cloud agents, Origin, and Bugbot need more than Plus ($8/mo). Plus is own models only, at fixed settings.
- If you use a lot of Claude or GPT, check dashboard usage before switching. New plans put no third-party allowance in the subscription. Own-model (Composer/Grok) heavy use may fit the company’s “usage per dollar” claim; third-party-heavy use may raise the monthly total.
- If you are still on Pro or Pro+, the docs give no reason to rush. Switching is permanent. Compare any limited-time Unify or billing offers against losing included third-party usage before you decide.
- Included usage is weekly and shared with Grok and the bot. It is not a coding-only monthly pool. Check limits, prepaid top-ups, and extra-usage caps at
grok.com/dashboard(new plans) or Cursor billing and Spending (legacy plans).
